Ibrox Stadium

History

The original Ibrox Stadium was abandoned when Rangers FC relocated to Ibrox in 1899. On December 30, 1899, the stadium hosted its first game, which involved Hearts. Ibrox's original design featured an oval shape, a track encircling the field, and primarily wooden scaffold-style terraces. In the first several months, it quickly grew to a 75,000 capacity. In 1928 the stadium went under some major redevelopment by Archibald Leitch who increased the capacity to over 80,000. At on old firm in 1939 118,567 were in attendance in the stadium making Ibrox at the time one the best stadiums in the UK. However, following the stadium disaster  in 1971 this all had to change. 66 people attending one of Rangers games were crushed to death following a collapse of one of the exists to the stadium. This incident caused rangers to gradually converse their stadium into an all seater as we all know it today.

New Additions to the Stadium

Over the years Ibrox has added many additions to the stadium like the Ibrox casino however their newest addition is adding a state-of-the-art building to host many different events. The plans are to knock down old Edmiston House and replace it with a new one. This venue will be used as a conference centre, concert venue, museum and club shop. This new addition will help raise more revenue for the club as the current Edmiston House currently lies unused which is ultimately just costing the teddy bears. However, with this new venue it will raise enough capital to help rangers as it will give them the chance to upgrade their stadium as they have in recent years had plenty of financial trouble. This new addition as well will give rangers fans another way to support their club, by attending events or visiting the club store.

Food and Drink

The Ibrox restaurant is situated in the Ibrox suite part of the stadium offering great views of the pitches down below. This offers delicious food and drinks for even more delicious prices. For people only wanting a two-course meal it cost them £19.50 and to add a dessert its only an extra £6. For the service that is being provided it really is a bargain that you should take up. Visiting the restaurant can just be a night out with friends but also Rangers offer packages for their supporters to have the ultimate experience. Supporters can enter the Ibrox suite before the game and enjoy pre match drinks where they can then go watch the game sitting on some of the best seats in the stadium before being served a meal inside the restaurant throughout half time.
